|
|
I was so pleased to see Alissa's book on Amazon.com because she swore a couple years back or so that she would never go that route and that we would only be able to get her book buying directly from her. Well, was I ever so pleased to see that she's changed her mind! <yea> Except, we're not all the way there. Her company says that they will only do this if there is an order for 10 books. So although one step forward, yes, but we're also one step back. Hopefully not for long, though.
So thought I'd post this here in case there were others in the NCR who want this book, without the horrendous expense of shipping/handling along with and on top of currency conversion. I don't mind authors getting money for books, it's all the rest that gets one's goat, esp. when every extra penny is so hard to come by! <g>
So any other Ottawans out there, or residents of the NCR (Gloucester, Orleans, Hull, etc., etc.) the Singing Pebble on Main Street next to the fabulous Wheat Berry natural food store and the super Green Door vegan restaurant (and across from St. Paul's University), just 9 more people besides me needed to request this book in order for SingingP to be able to place an order!
The bookstore info is:
Singing Pebble Books
(613) 230-9165
202A Main Street,
Ottawa, ON K1S 1C6
It's where I always go when I want to order a book because once I ordered something directly from the States and it was a terrible experience. The book wasn't even a proper one, it was cerloxed! Its list price started out at about US$17 dollars or so but I ended up paying over a whopping Cdn$48.00! And I was lucky. Apparently the Canadian govt randomly chooses to demand border fees, or whatever they're called, for things coming into the country! I escaped this fee that time, but I won't ever buy a book that way again. But as I said, the long wait may be close to over. If just 9 other people want the book, Singing Pebble can bring it in. And it'll only cost us the price of the conversion plus taxes!!!! <yippeee>
So, pls, pls pass the word along if you or anyone else would like this book.
Also, here is Alissa's forum in case anyone would like to get a feel for her book:

Cheers!
(Hope the servers are working now <g>.) |

I thought I would let everyone know that this is a really good book, especially for new-to-raw people out there. It was the first raw cookbook I ever bought! It has lots of good soaking/sprouting tips, and is an overall great introduction to raw foods in general. Of all my books, the recipes in Alissas book require the fewest "special" appliances (like dehydrators and homogenizing juicers), as well as the fewest hard-to-come-by ingredients. My cookbook still gets quite a bit of use to this day.
Diana, I will let people out there know about the book!
Also, if anyone has great book recommendations, don't hesitate to post them!
Dani :) |

Great! Hopefully 9 more people a number difficult to come by! <g>
Cheers!
Di.
p.s., is it just me? Or are the darn servers _still_ not working after all these months???? I _never_ get notices that threads I post are responded to in this forum. It's a huge nuisance esp. when you belong to as many forums/groups as I do. I tend to only belong to forums whose servers work. The trouble is that this is the only such forum that I know of that concerns Ottawa raw food issues. Pls let me know if anyone else experiences the same problems so that I can contact the admins. Thanks! :oD |

Mark, that would be great! It's so very difficult to keep track of messages esp. for someone like me. I belong to a multitude of forums and yahoo groups and can really only properly keep up with ones that send me an email when there has been a response. I kept a reminder for this message after nothing came back to me yet messages were posted, so that's why I just found your message.
Thanks so much and hopefully this time, solution can be found. Much appreciated. |

Great news! I spoke with a rep from Alissa's company yesterday as I wanted to know if it was 10 of EACH item they needed in order to be able to ship. They said _no_ (yeay), that it was a TOTAL of any 10 items. I really want the DVD as well, which is why I called them to find out. I have been participating quite a bit lately over at her forum (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3) and for last few years have heard nothing but good things in other forums about her book and DVD that I'm very eager to get both. So just wanted to update everyone here on how things are going. If anyone would like her book and DVD (http://www.alissacohen.com/products.html), we just need to be a total of 5 people <yeay, jumping up and down> <g>.
So here's hoping someone out there soon would like either the book and/or the book and DVD, too.
See the contact info for Singing Pebble in this thread if you'd like to order and contact Singing Pebble.
Cheers! :D |

Hi Diana & all,
I spoke with Krista from Singing Pebble Books today and you'll be pleased to know that she ordered 10 of Alissa's books! Best to reserve one if you're interested as I imagine they'll go fast.
Cheers,
Natasha |

I read this post yesterday afternoon and that decided me to pop on over to the Singing Pebble last night since I needed to go to the Wheat Berry. I started speaking with the gal at the counter and she right away knew who I was, so this is great. I found out Natasha that thanks to you, a shipment is coming in and that we should be getting it soon!! I can hardly wait.
So a book and a DVD are on their way to me.
The gal said you'd be working with Alissa in the next few days, Natasha. This sounds really great! Can you tell us what you're going to be doing?
Good luck!
Cheers.
p.s., the book and DVD cost the same amount each and they're, unfortunately, not cheap. They're about $40.50 each, if memory serves. But I was already across the street waiting for the bus when I realized that I'd forgotten to ask if that was net or gross, so I don't know if that's with or without GST. Still, I think it's worth it, from everything I've read about the items. And it still is probably a heck of a lot cheaper than if we individually paid and had them shipped them directly from the States. Going to post over at Alissa's forum, too, to tell the people there that were interested the good news. |

Hi Everyone,
I just returned from 5 days with Alissa in Kittery, Maine and brought back 3 of her books & 7 dvd's. The books are quite heavy which is one of the reasons they're difficult to bring in to Canada.
Diana: you've been extremely patient so if you're still interested in purchasing a book, I have a signed copy from Alissa.

Hope you enjoyed your trip Natasha...
After your post served as a reminder about the book order, I called Singing Pebble to see whether or not they have an update on the status of the order - apparently "they" lost the order, but have replaced it with a new one, and the books should arrive "soon."
Cheers,
Laurie |

Hi Laurie,
Thanks, my trip was enjoyable and I met some great people ---but it sure is nice to be home.
Krista from the Singing Pebble contacted Alissa's group and they're hoping the order will arrive any day now . Depending on customs, that is. :)
I do have a copy of Alissa's book & some dvd's if anyone's interested. |
